CLEMSON — Clemson University’s Richard H. Pennell Center for Real Estate Development received the 2012 Outstanding Leadership Organization Award from CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) Upstate South Carolina in recognition of the center’s advancement of women in the commercial real estate industry.
Founded in 1889, CREW is a networking organization geared toward supporting women in the field of commercial real estate. It has more than 8,000 members and is located in 74 major markets in North America.
“Clemson University’s Pennell Center for Real Estate Development collaborates with organizations across the Upstate, including CREW, to bring high-quality programming and advanced networking opportunities,” said Maurie Lawrence of Wyche, past president of CREW. “The Pennell Center graduates women who positively contribute to the commercial real estate industry at the highest levels. The center demonstrates a real commitment to advancing women and therefore advancing the success of the commercial real estate industry as a whole.”
Housed in the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities, the Richard H. Pennell Center seeks to combine education with research and outreach programs to enhance the real estate profession and expand the reputation of Clemson University as a leader in the real estate industry.
The award was given to the center in recognition of its extensive efforts to engage women and minorities in the male-dominated commercial real estate industry.
“Role models are essential in the real estate disciplines, and CREW plays an important role in our efforts to recruit and retain quality graduate students and faculty members as well as to place our students in long-term careers in the real estate profession. We are pleased to be honored for this partnership,” said center director Elaine Worzala.
