Create a ‘Carolina Yard’ at free Midlands class series

COLUMBIA — Homeowners will learn how to create beautiful and functional landscapes during a free two-night backyard landscaping miniseries hosted by the Gills Creek Watershed Association and the Richland Countywide Stormwater Consortium.

Classes will be held on two evenings in May and June from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Bayview Baptist Church, 5300 Two Notch Road in Columbia.

Registration is not required. Light refreshments will be provided.

Based on the principles of the Carolina Yards and Neighborhoods program, the series is designed to assist homeowners achieve their desired landscapes while saving time and money and protecting South Carolina’s natural resources.

Topics during the series include selecting the best plants for the yard, native gardening, erosion control and rain gardens.   

The Richland Countywide Stormwater Consortium is a regional collaboration involving Clemson University’s Carolina Clear program in partnership with communities and educators from universities, state agencies and nonprofits.
