Clemson staff wins awards for creativity in print, online communications

CLEMSON — The national Association for Communications Excellence (ACE) has recognized Clemson University Public Service & Agriculture media staff with eight awards for print, radio, video and online communications.

“Birding at Lake Conestee,” a one-hour Your Day Radio program on SC-ETV radio, won the Outstanding Professional Skill Award for its on-site recording at the Greenville County nature park. This prestigious award went to wildlife ecologist Drew Lanham and segment producer Eric Rodgers. The show also won a Gold Award in the radio category.

A Gold Award also went to an 11-minute video showcasing Clemson’s “Intelligent River” remote-sensing technology that provides real-time data on water quality and flow rate along the entire length of the Savannah River. Paul Ruszkowski was the producer and Debbie Dalhouse the scriptwriter.

Three Silver Awards were presented for: “Leaf it on the Lawn,” an English/Spanish flyer informing homeowners and lawn-care professionals to mulch or bag leaves and grass clippings to protect water quality designed by Walker Massey; “South Carolina Agriculture,” a four-minute video showcasing South Carolina agriculture and how Clemson University Public Service and Agriculture programs enhance the economic viability of the state’s largest industry by Ruszkowski, producer, and Dalhouse, scriptwriter; and a three-minute video script providing an overview of the “Intelligent River” technology by Dalhouse, scriptwriter.

Two Bronze Awards were presented for the web feature “Got Extension Agents?” showing Clemson Extension agents at work with farmers across South Carolina by Peter Kent, writer; and for an online shopping mall where shoppers can register for Clemson Extension workshops and 4-H summer camps or purchase publications and DVDs on agriculture, forestry and natural resources by Peter Togel, programmer.
