CLEMSON — About 100 carillon professionals and enthusiasts from around the world will be at Clemson University June 19-22 for the 70th annual congress of The Guild of Carillonneurs in North America (GCNA).
The conference will feature lectures and concerts from world-renowned experts, as well as diverse performances and presentations.
Many of the performances will be played on the Clemson Memorial Carillon atop Tillman Hall. (see attached schedule) The public is invited to bring picnic baskets and listen to the music from Cox Union Plaza, the Military Heritage Plaza, Bowman Field and the Clemson Memorial Carillon Garden across from Tillman Hall. The concerts will take place rain or shine.
“This conference will bring to Clemson the top carillon professionals in the world, and it will be a great opportunity for people in the community to experience carillon music,” said Linda Dzuris, Clemson carillonneur and associate professor of performing arts.
This conference is part of a year of events in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Clemson Memorial Carillon, 47 bells cast by the Paccard Fonderie de Cloches of Annecy-le-Vieux, France.
Participants will be able to network with the best in the field of campanology or the art of bell-ringing, hear expert interpretations of carillon repertoire and have access to music for purchase from national and international publishers.
