CLEMSON — Clemson University architecture professor David Allison has been selected by Healthcare Design Magazine as one of the eight most influential people in health care design.

Prominent architects, interior designers and consultants from across the nation nominated professionals whose work has had a significant impact on the health care-design industry. The candidates were selected from an online public vote, as well as votes from the magazine’s board of directors and the Center for Health Design, a leading health care and design research organization. Allison was named to its list of the 25 most influential people in health care design in 2009 and 2010 and was recognized by the magazine in 2007 as one of “Twenty Who are Making a Difference.”

Allison is the director of graduate studies in Architecture + Health at Clemson. The program has been recognized as one of the most comprehensive professional degree programs concentrating on architecture and health in the nation. Focused on preparing graduates to engage in the integrated planning and design of health care facilities, the program has won numerous national awards for its work and the work of its students.

Allison is a registered architect in California, South Carolina and North Carolina. He was a founding member of the American College of Healthcare Architects and the Coalition for Health Environments Research. He is also a member of the Leadership Council of the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health. Allison received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture at Clemson.

“It is certainly an honor to be recognized with this distinction once again this year by Healthcare Design Magazine,” said Allison. “This recognition is really a testament to the impact our students, graduates and faculty in the Architecture + Health program at Clemson have in the field of health facilities design. I see my most significant and meaningful accomplishment as directing and contributing to the education of future innovators and leaders in this area of architectural practice.”
