Penney to speak at a public luncheon during the third Annual Clemson Leadership Summit
GREENVILLE — Former Air National Guard pilot and now Lockheed Martin executive Maj. Heather Penney will be the keynote speaker at the public luncheon during the commencement of Clemson’s third annual Leadership Summit Friday, Aug. 10, in Greenville.
“Maj. Penney exemplifies courage and passion in leadership under extraordinary circumstances through her pursuit of becoming a fighter pilot and acts of heroism during her service,” said Tanya Thompson, director of Clemson at the Falls.
Penney is a third-generation pilot and director of USAF Air Superiority Systems at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Washington, D.C. Penney was selected by the D.C. Air National Guard to be the first woman in the D.C. Guard to fly the F-16. She accumulated more than 1,000 hours in the F-16 Viper, including two combat tours in Iraq.
She was in the first two-plane flight over the Pentagon and Washington, D.C., in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks and also escorted Air Force One into Andrews Air Force Base later that day. She has assisted and evaluated other Air National Guard units during operational exercises and holds multiple Air Medals.
