Watermelon Field Day coming to Clemson’s Edisto center

BLACKVILLE — Just in time for summer, the Clemson University Edisto Research and Education Center will host its annual Watermelon and Vegetable Producers Field Day July 12. The field day is free and open to the public, and includes lunch and watermelon tasting.

Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. and is followed by an indoor classroom session at 9 a.m. in the center’s auditorium. It includes a watermelon disease update and other presentations.

The tour then heads outside to view watermelon and vegetable field-research projects, including 92 watermelon and melon varieties. Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) and Pesticide License credits will be offered.

Following the field tour, lunch and cold watermelons will be served in the auditorium, with an opportunity for further discussion.
