Peanut Field Day coming to Clemson’s Edisto center

BLACKVILLE — Clemson University will host a Peanut Field Day Sept. 6 at the Edisto Research and Education Center. The field day is free and open to the public and includes lunch.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The field tour starts at 9:30 a.m. and will make three stops:

Tour stop 1

Soil-borne disease research: 

  • Twin vs. single rows and susceptible vs. resistant vs. mixed
  • Bailey reduced fungicide

New technology:

  • New twin row planter
  • Yield monitor

Tour stop 2

  • Variety Challenge: comparison of new vs. standard runner and Virginia types
  • Herbicide burn and drift symptomology
  • Lesser corn stalk borer

Tour Stop 3

  • Insect Management: thrips/TSWV and leafhoppers
  • Disease Screen: new Virginia and runner varieties
  • Tillage type/timing and cover crops

There also will be a corn field tour and presentation from 1 to 2 p.m.
