CLEMSON — Clemson University has released an update to its mobile app, m.Clemson, with a host of new features and upgrades to existing modules. Available for all major smartphone platforms — Android, iPhone and BlackBerry, as well as a web-based fallback for other devices — the app gives users access to a wide array of tools and information.

Though m.Clemson is primarily student-driven, the app is designed to be helpful to everyone. Visitors can use the app to find their way around campus with the GPS-enabled map, or discover shopping and dining options — both on-campus and downtown. Students and faculty can stay up to date with courses and grades using the Blackboard Learn module, or find open computers in real time with the Lab Finder.

Those away from the university can keep up with Clemson using the app’s academic and athletic news feeds and video and photo modules. In case of an emergency, the Safety module allows users to summon immediate help.

During orientation, incoming students and their parents are offered a full schedule of events with integrated maps. Also included is the official orientation Twitter feed that keeps users in the know about ongoing and upcoming events.

Other new features added or updated in the latest iteration of m.Clemson include:

  • Tiger Transit, which allows students to request rides around campus at night, either directly within the app or with a phone call;
  • Library, providing easy access to the card catalogs of Clemson libraries;
  • PawPrints, which enables students, faculty and staff to check their print quota on-the-go;
  • Redfern Health Center, a portal for patients to make appointments and check prescriptions;
  • PSA (Public Service Activities), which serves as an outlet for news and other information about Clemson’s land-grant public service and sustainability initiatives throughout the state.

For the iOS platform, the update also brings springboard personalization, enabling users to move icons around the app’s home screen. The Maps module also has been upgraded for iOS. The Places feature provides the hours, location, contact and other pertinent information for all of Clemson’s points of interest. Transit delivers directions on when and where to catch the next CAT bus, making it easy to leverage the different routes to get around campus.

Lastly, Augmented reality utilizes the device’s camera, GPS and compass to identify campus buildings in a three-dimensional interactive view and provides the walking time from the current location.

The m.Clemson app is available free in Apple’s App Store, the Google Play Market and the BlackBerry App World.
