CLEMSON — The Clemson University Jazz Ensemble will perform music by great American jazz musicians and composers at its concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29.
Under the direction of Timothy Hurlburt, the musicians will play three pieces composed or arranged by prolific Big Band composer Sammy Nestico. “Strike up the Band" (composed by George and Ira Gershwin and arranged by Nestico), “Ya Gotta Try… Harder” and “Samantha” are among almost 600 numbers Nestico has published and worked on for school groups and professional big bands.
Also on the program are Kris Berg's "Cobblestones” and an arrangement of “Blue Rondo a la Turk,” originally composed by Dave Brubeck. “Sebastian’s Theme” by Don Sebesky and “Hanky Panky” by Bob Mintzer round out the evening.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the box office at 864-656-7787 from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday or visit the Brooks Center website at www.clemson.edu/Brooks.
