CLEMSON — Clemson professor Lamont A. Flowers has received the National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME) 2012 Carl A. Grant Multicultural Research Award.
Flowers is a Distinguished Professor of Educational Leadership in Clemson’s Eugene T. Moore School of Education. He also is executive director of Clemson’s Charles H. Houston Center for the Study of the Black Experience in Education.
NAME is a non-profit organization that works toward equality and social justice through multicultural education programs. The Carl A. Grant Multicultural Research Award is given to an individual or group for making major contributions in advancing multicultural education through their research.
Flowers received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University. He also received a master's degree in social studies education and a doctoral degree in higher education from the University of Iowa. Additionally, he received a master’s degree in industrial statistics from the University of South Carolina.
Flowers has written several academic publications about factors effecting the pathways to a college education and labor market outcomes for African Americans.
“I am honored to receive this award from the National Association for Multicultural Education in light of their commitment and dedication to educational equity and social equality,” said Flowers.
