Five Clemson University alumni to receive Distinguished Service Award

CLEMSON — The Clemson Alumni Association has announced five recipients of the Distinguished Service Award, the university’s highest alumni honor. The awards will be presented on April 5.

The association annually recognizes alumni who demonstrate a dedication to enhancing the value of the university for future generations; church, professional and public service; and personal accomplishments that serve as a model for present and future Clemson students.

This year’s award recipients are:

  • William L. “Roy” Abercrombie Jr. of Greenville, Class of 1969, a retired bank executive who devotes his time to helping both Clemson and the Greenville community;
  • James Warren “Jimmy” Addison of Atlanta, Class of 1968, a Hall of Fame Clemson quarterback who has excelled both on and off the field;
  • Russell Carlton Ashmore Jr. of Taylors, Class of 1950, a military veteran who has worked to help preserve Clemson’s military heritage and support the university’s ROTC programs;
  • James “Ed” Duckworth of Atlanta, Class of 1961, an engineer turned financial planner who has provided support to everything from tennis to performing arts to scholarships;
  • E. Mitchell “Mitch” Norville of Greenville, Class of 1980, a real estate professional who has left his paw print on Washington, D.C., and Boston.
