Clemson’s African and Caribbean Student Association hosts free cultural event

CLEMSON — The African and Caribbean Student Association at Clemson University will host a free cultural event at 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, at Tillman Hall auditorium.

Roots Rock Reggae is designed to expose Clemson students and others to the diversity of the university campus. There will be performances by the Clemson University Steel Band and students from the African Student Union and Caribbean Student Association at the University of Georgia. There will be a brief intermission where people can sample food from various African and Caribbean nations, making the event a one-stop shop for fashion, food and music. There also will be giveaways and poetry readings by Clemson students. 

"Roots Rock Reggae gives Clemson and the surrounding community a chance to get an international ‘taste’ of some of the aspects fellow students have grown up in culturally,” said Dob Njinimbam, president of the association and a senior biological sciences major from Greenville.

The African and Caribbean Student Association was started in 2000 with a goal of facilitating unity among African and Caribbean students and promoting awareness on Clemson’s campus. The event is sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs.
