CLEMSON — Experience one of the most successful chamber music ensembles in the United States as the Imani Winds perform at 8 p.m. Monday, March 11, at Clemson University’s Brooks Center for the Performing Arts.
With two members who are composers and a commitment to commissioning new work, the group enriches traditional wind quintet repertoire while bridging many cultural traditions. The group heads a Legacy Commissioning Project through which it premieres and tours new works for the woodwind quintet written by established and emerging composers with diverse musical backgrounds.
The first half of the March 11 program includes “Tzigane” by group member Valerie Coleman, “Shadow” by Narong Prangcharoen and “Five Poems” by Karel Husa. The second half features “The Elephant and the Clown” by Paquito D’Rivera, “Kleine Kammermusik, Opus 24” by Paul Hindemith and “Dance Mediterranea” by Simon Shaheen.
As part of the Lillian and Robert Utsey Chamber Music Series, the performance by Imani Winds is free and no ticket is required. For more information, visit www.clemson.edu/Brooks or call the box office at 864-656-7787 from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
