Bookmark, follow CU Safety Twitter for emergency updates

Published: March 12, 2013

Clemson University has sirens and CU Safe Alerts to warn the campus of emergencies and disruptions to operations. Now there’s another way to get information: the CU Safety Twitter page.

When an emergency or disruption occurs, additional information may be posted at https://twitter.com/cusafety as it becomes available.

Previously, students, faculty and staff were directed to the CU Safety Web page for more information. However, increased traffic may slow the speed with which the website can be updated. The Twitter page can be updated continuously if more information becomes available.

More detailed information will continue to be posted on the CU Safety Web page at http://www.clemson.edu/cusafety/ and shared via Inside Clemson messages as well.

The CU Safety Twitter can be used to quickly respond to rumors and misinformation that spread through the social media.

The CU Safety Twitter is among several methods Clemson University uses to alert the campus about threats to safety and disruptions:

  • Warning sirens with voice messages are the first to be triggered when there is an imminent threat to safety, including severe weather. They also are used to alert people who are outside or on athletic fields about approaching lightning.
  • CU Safe Alerts are issued for emergencies and include text messages for people who have signed up to receive them and emails to all Clemson users. Text messages are the fastest way to get information and reach users when they’re away from email. (Go to http://www.clemson.edu/cusafety/warnings.html to learn how to sign up.)
  • Emergency messages also may be added to the Clemson.edu home page and local radio and television stations often have additional information.
  • CU Safe Alerts are used to alert the campus to disruptions to operations, such as class cancelations due to weather.
  • Inside Clemson messages also provide additional information as it becomes available.
