CLEMSON — Visitors and exhibitors are hearing a new sound system at Clemson University’s T. Ed Garrison Livestock Arena.
New speakers were installed over the seated areas and concourse and existing speakers over the center ring were replaced. The purpose was to create a “surround sound” experience to ensure that everyone could clearly hear announcements, Garrison Arena director Charles Williams said.
“We very much appreciate our partners who made these improvements possible,” said Williams. “Their continuing support has helped the Garrison Arena become one of the largest arenas in the Southeast.”
The $43,000 upgrade was made possible by funding from the South Carolina Upstate Equine Council, Anderson County’s Accommodations Tax Grant Program, the Bishop Foundation and the Bishop family.
“The S.C. Upstate Equine Council is happy to support the new sound system,” said Tom Herbster, vice chairman of the organization. “It improves the arena experience for exhibitors and spectators alike.”
Glenn Brill, director of Anderson County’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism Division, said, “The Garrison Arena is a major driver for economic development in Anderson County so we want it to be the best in the Southeast.”
The arena attracts some 100,000 visitors each year from 20 states and Canada. Events range from dog shows and livestock shows for horses, cattle, goats and poultry to the Foothills Gala that benefits local charities in Anderson, Oconee and Pickens Counties.
