CHARLESTON — Charleston-area gardeners can enroll in an online Carolina Yards course and learn from the comfort of home how to grow and maintain environmentally friendly Lowcountry landscapes.
The first-time five-week course by the Ashley Cooper Stormwater Education Consortium includes presentations, videos, discussion forums with fellow gardeners and more.
The course begins April 9 and costs $99. It is limited to 60 participants. Click here to register.
During the five weeks, participants will learn how to maintain healthy soils, determine correct plants for certain locations, manage yard pests, irrigation and rainwater harvesting and how to create a backyard wildlife sanctuary.
The registration fee includes a rain garden manual, rainwater harvesting guide, soil test and rain gauge and the gardening book “Bringing Nature Home” by Douglas Tallamy.
The Carolina Yards Online course is offered to residents of Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties. Residents from outside these counties are welcome to participate, but certain limitations may apply.
