Wilkins to address Canadian studies conference

CLEMSON — David Wilkins, former United States Ambassador to Canada and current chairman of Clemson University’s board of trustees, will address the Southern Association of Canadian Studies (SACS) conference April 6 at Clemson at the Falls in downtown Greenville.

Wilkins will speak about his personal experiences and moderate a question and answer session on relations between the United States and Canada.

Colin Pearce of the Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism will speak during the opening session and moderate a roundtable discussion on Canadian studies today. Scholars and professionals from across the country will lead sessions during the day.

The conference, sponsored by the Clemson Canada Center, is open to the public. Some of the sessions include:

  • “Tory Troubles and Triumphs: Comparing the Leadership Contexts of Prime Ministers Diefenbaker, Mulroney and Harper”
  • "Comparing the Policy of Capital Punishment between Canada and the United States of America”
  • “Fannin’ Flies and Tellin’ Lies: Black Runaways and American Tales of Life in British Canada before the Civil War”
  • “Rebranding ‘Brand Canada’: Canada as a ‘Clean Energy Superpower’ and ‘Responsible Resource Producer’”

SACS is dedicated to promoting the study of Canada in the southwestern and southeastern United States while providing opportunities for professional development.
