Friday Events

Clemson students want to share their love of writing with Upstate high-schoolers in a Young Writers’ Workshop from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Hendrix Student Center. Part of the Clemson Literary Festival, the Young Writers' Workshop is designed to encourage Upstate high school students’ interests in creative writing. Students will learn poetry and prose techniques from nationally acclaimed poets and fiction writers. For details, contact Jillian Weise (864-656-3151, jweise@clemson.edu).

PHOTO OP: Clemson students will pitch in to help clean up campus during Clemson Sweep from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students will register at the Class of 1960 North Green and will go from there to work on cleanup and beautification projects around campus. Clemson Literary Festival:

  • English professors will give readings of their own work as part of the Literary Festival from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Class of 1941 Studio in Daniel Hall. Professors Will Stockton, Rhondda Thomas and Brian McGrath will give readings and take questions from students. For details, contact Jillian Weise (864-656-3151, jweise@clemson.edu).
  • The festival continues with readings by authors David Abrams, Eduardo C. Corral, Charles McLeod, Bonnie Nadzam and Ariana Reines at 5 p.m. at Tiger Town Tavern in downtown Clemson. For details, contact Jillian Weise (864-656-3151, jweise@clemson.edu).

The First Friday Leadership Series presents Julie Seitz, director of Workplace 2020 for The Coca-Cola Company, speaking at 5 p.m. at Clemson at the Falls in downtown Greenville. A Clemson alumna, Seitz will speak on “Designing Tomorrow’s Workplaces.” For details, contact Amy Burka (864-656-8090, burka2@clemson.edu).

Saturday Events

Clemson students will volunteer to help the community during the Unity Project from noon to 2 p.m. Part of the Clemson National Week of Service, students will volunteer at various nonprofit agencies, working on such projects as cleaning up at local parks, washing Clemson Area Transit buses and helping with projects at YMCA Day Camp. PHOTO OP: Army ROTC cadets at Clemson University will fly in military helicopters Saturday, April 6, as part of the spring semester field training exercise. The helicopters will begin picking up cadets for the first of several trips at 4:30 p.m. at Fant’s Grove. More than 40 cadets will learn how to establish a landing zone, board a helicopter with combat equipment and exit aircrafts to authorize security. They will fly to the field near Jervey Athletic Center. For information, contact Craig Allen Wells (864-656-4912, cawells@clemson.edu).
