| The
School of Materials Science and Engineering was established in
2001 following the merger of the Department of Ceramic & Materials
Engineering and the School of Textiles, Fiber and Polymer Science.
The school has been in existence since 1898 when it was first
known as the Clemson Textile School. It was the third textile
school established in the United States and the first founded
by a land grant college.
