Gallicchio named to ASCP Globalization Committee

CLEMSON – Vincent Gallicchio, Clemson's associate vice president for research and professor of biological sciences and public health sciences, has been appointed to the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Registry Globalization Committee.

Vincent GallicchioThe Globalization Taskforce, now the Globalization Committee, was formed in order to provide an opportunity for international candidates to become certified in laboratory work.

The responsibilities of the committee include exporting of Board of Registry examinations, preparation of foreign needs assessments, foreign curricular evaluation and identifying resources for global standards and other globalization activities.

“As an ASCP board-certified clinical laboratory scientist, my participation on this important international committee is key to moving forward the health agenda of ASCP to address many of the health concerns of humans, especially those of the developing world, such as HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria and nutrition-related diseases,” Gallicchio said.

Some of Gallicchio’s research interests include experimental drug therapeutics for AIDS and cancer and international education pertaining to biomedical laboratory science.

“We look forward to working with (Dr. Gallicchio) and exploring how his global expertise can assist with our efforts overseas for laboratory medicine,” said Jennifer Young, manager of international certification activities and member of the ASCP Board of Registry.
