Padilla appointed new director of Eugene T. Moore School of Education

CLEMSON — Clemson University has chosen Michael J. Padilla as the new director of the Eugene T. Moore School of Education and associate dean of educational collaborations.

Padilla was the director for educator partnerships at the College of Education and associate Michael Padilladean and chair of the department of science education at the University of Georgia. He also directed the Center for Latino Achievement and Success in Education at UGA.

“Dr. Padilla is a visionary leader who will lead the Eugene T. Moore School of Education to new levels of success and influence,” said Larry Allen, dean of the College of Health, Education and Human Development at Clemson University. He has a dynamic vision for preparing teachers and school administrators that will help make South Carolina a leader in educational achievement and student development.”

Padilla was recognized as the Aderhold Distinguished Professor of the College of Education at UGA in 2003. He received the Walter B. Hill Award for Distinguished Achievement in Public Service and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) Distinguished Service Award. In 2004, he was elected president of the NSTA.

Padilla served as a principal investigator on three National Science Foundation and many U.S. Department of Education grants. He has taught science in middle and secondary schools and contributed to the 1996 U.S. National Science Education Standards.
