Water forum held at Clemson
CLEMSON — The next “war between the states” may be over water. Georgia needs water for metro Atlanta. North Carolina needs water for Charlotte. South Carolina is in the middle. What must be done to ensure that we have the water it needs?
To answer this question, Clemson University Restoration Institute (CURI) is sponsoring a Water Forum on Thursday, April 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Hendrix Student Center ballroom on campus.
“Clemson’s first Water Forum will provide an update on South Carolina water policy and funding opportunities for faculty, staff and graduate students involved in water issues research and outreach,” said Gene Eidson, forum organizer and CURI restoration ecology director.
The purpose of the forum is to establish interdisciplinary teams to address South Carolina’s critical water issues through research, education and public service. The Restoration Institute will assist these teams in seeking public and private funding for their work.
Forum keynote speaker Dean Moss, a member of the Governor’s Water Law Review Team, will address “Savannah River Issues, the View from the Sea Buoy.”
Representatives from state and federal water agencies also will address the group, and Eidson will discuss public-private funding opportunities. In the afternoon, forum participants will break into interest groups to discuss collaborative opportunities in four topic areas:
- Freshwater research and outreach
- Marine/estuarine research and outreach
- Water policy, economic development and social marketing
- Water quality analysis, monitoring and modeling
