Clemson marks International Education Week
CLEMSON – Clemson University will mark International Education Week Nov. 12 to 16. IEW is a partnership between the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to recognize the benefits of international education and exchange.
All of the events that week will be sponsored by the Gantt Intercultural Center (GIC). The GIC provides support services for Clemson University’s students of color and international students and cultural awareness programs for the Clemson campus and community.
Events for the week include:
- International cultural exchange photo exhibit, Nov. 12-16, R.M. Cooper Library Lobby: Exhibit of photos taken by Clemson students of their international experiences.
- International internship panel, 4 p.m. Nov. 12, Michelin Career Center boardroom: Students will discuss their experiences working in internships abroad.
- Breaking down the Invisible Wall of Cultural Differences: A Student Panel, 6:30 p.m. Nov. 12, Earle Hall 100: International students will discuss their roles in society and the various stages of their cultural adjustment in their crossing of cultural boundaries.
- Ten Thousand Villages Gift Festival, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Nov. 13-14, Hendrix Student Center: Sale of handcrafted items made by third-world artisans, who will receive the proceeds.
- Spanish film “Thesis,” 9 p.m. Nov. 13, McKissick Theatre.
- Globalization Seminar: Iraq and Vietnam Compared, 7 p.m. Nov. 14, Strom Thurmond Institute: History professor Edwin Moise will speak on the historical background of the U.S. debate over the Vietnam War and its applicability to the current war in Iraq.
- Stand-up comedian Dan Ahdoot, 8 p.m. Nov. 14, McKissick Theatre: Adhoot is an Iranian-American Jewish comedian who is best known for being a contestant on NBC’s reality TV show “Last Comic Standing,” and for performing on Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend.”
- International Dance Club Night, 8:30-10:30 p.m. Nov. 15, 356 Restaurant in downtown Clemson: This event will feature modern dance music from around the world, including Salsa and Meringue.
- International flags at football game half-time performance, Nov. 17, Memorial Stadium: International students from all over the world will carry their flags out onto the field at the half-time performance at the Clemson-Boston College game.
All events are free and open to the public.
