Kathy Hayes Hunter of Lexington receives Clemson Alumni Distinguished Service Award
CLEMSON – The Clemson Alumni Association has recognized Kathy Hayes Hunter of Lexington as one of five 2008 Distinguished Service Award winners, the university’s highest alumni honor.
Distinguished Service Award honorees demonstrate a dedication to enhancing the value of the university for future generations; service to church, community, profession and public service; and personal accomplishments that serve as a model for present and future Clemson students.
Hunter earned her bachelor's degree in English from Clemson in 1980 and a bachelor's degree in computer science in 1983. She works as a wellness professional with the Lexington Medical Center, but spent 10 years prior to that working in various positions in Clemson’s computer center and six years teaching computer classes at Lexington Elementary School.
She has been Clemson Alumni Association president, a member of the Alumni National Council and board member and chairwoman of the Women’s Alumni Council. A Clemson Fund donor since graduation and a life member of IPTAY, Hunter served on the Clemson University Foundation board of directors from 2001 to 2003. Since 2004, she has been on the Clemson University Library Ambassadors board.
Hunter and her family – husband Jody, also a Clemson alumnus; and daughters Hall and Macy – are active members of St. Albans Episcopal Church in Lexington. Hunter has volunteered for various community agencies, including Meals on Wheels and Upstate Friends in Deed, a service for abused and neglected teen-aged women. She is an American Heart Association CPR instructor and a member of the Columbia Junior League.
