Clemson’s Pershing Rifles team wins national championship

CLEMSON – Clemson University’s Pershing Rifles won its fifth straight National Championship in the three-day event at Embry Riddle University in Daytona Beach, Fla. The team competed against 18 other teams from all over the country.

It is the team’s seventh title in nine years.

Pershing Rifles“Since our founding at Clemson in 1939, Company C-4 has a long history of being the best at what we do. All our members have put forth a tremendous amount of effort this year, and it’s a great honor for us to continue this tradition of excellence by bringing home another national championship,” said Pershing Rifles Capt. Douglas Wells.

Clemson has 21 active members in the Pershing Rifles. Of those members, 16 competed in various events.

Members who competed are: Wells, a senior computer information systems major from Greenville; Zach Shuler, a senior electrical engineering major from Marietta, Ga.; Thomas Dinwoodie, a senior history major from Beaufort; David Sherman, a senior political science major from Lawrenceville, Ga.; Thomas Carlsen, a senior mechanical engineering major from Duluth, Ga.; Justin Baker, a junior history major from Columbia; Thomas Rothrock, a junior construction science and management major from Greer; Christopher Gunter, a junior packaging science major from Columbia; Jon Jordan, a sophomore political science major from Central; Anthony Whavers, a sophomore economics major from Durham, N.C.; Derrick Burgin, a sophomore bioengineering major from Gaffney; Tripp Hathaway, a sophomore management major from Atlanta; Najee Bagley, a freshman construction science and management major from Simpsonville; Dedric Guest, a freshman computer engineering major from Columbia; Mike Rothwell, a freshman engineering major from Salisbury, N.C.; and Chris Todd, a freshman political science major from Hilton Head.
