Tigers Who Care donates to Clemson Child Development Center

CLEMSON – Tigers Who Care, a Clemson University student service organization, will donate $637.50 raised from a book drive to Clemson Child Development Center (CCDC). Members will make a check presentation at the center at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, April 3.

Tigers Who Care hosts a semi-annual book drive during exam week at the end of each semester. The books collected are purchased by Better World Books, which supports the National Center for Family Literacy, an organization that helps people learn to read. The proceeds from Better World Books are being donated to CCDC.

“Tigers Who Care volunteers at CCDC several times throughout the semester, and we felt like it was somewhere that could really use the help financially. It is an important place because it helps parents who cannot necessarily afford expensive child care,” said Donnie Newton, Tigers Who Care book drive representative and a senior majoring in English from Charleston.

“We didn’t really feel like we were doing enough for a lot of the local groups in the area, so when we were told that we were being paid for helping Better World Books with a book drive we decided the money would be best used if it was donated. It was the least we could do in our effort to make helping others an everyday thing and in our attempt to 'pay it forward.'”

Tigers Who Care works with several local groups, including CCDC, Helping Hands, the Animal Rescue Foundation, Habitat for Humanity and Clemson Downs.
