Clemson extension to hold Equine Management Seminar
FLORENCE — The Pee Dee Region of Clemson extension will conduct a five-week Equine Management Seminar. The program will begin Thursday, May 15, and will continue to meet on Thursday evenings until June 12.
Each program will begin at 6:30 p.m. and end by 9 p.m. The seminar will be held at the Pee Dee Research and Education Center, 2200 Pocket Road in Florence.
The cost is $75, which includes a notebook containing copies of the presentation and fact sheets related to each topic.
Topics to be covered include:
- Forage systems for horses
- Hay selection and nutrition
- Waste management
- facilities and fencing
- Toxic plants to horses
- Health and vaccination programs
- Hoof care
Speakers include:
- Dr. John Andrae, forage crop specialist, Clemson University;
- Dr. Chris Mortensen, assistant professor, equine extension specialist in animal and veterinary sciences, Clemson University;
- Chris Talley, extension agent, Anderson County;
- Jesse Adams, area livestock agent, Pee Dee Region;
- Lee Van Vlake, area livestock agent, Pee Dee Region; and
- Bryan Smith, area extension agent/agriculture engineer, local veterinarian and farrier.
“This program should prove beneficial to new and experienced horse owners alike,” said Lee Van Vlake, Clemson extension area livestock agent. “Space is limited so please respond quickly.” Refreshments will be served each night.
