Cawthon appointed to international housing board

CLEMSON — A Clemson University faculty member takes a professor’s perspective into his new role on the board of an international association of college housing professionals.

The Association of College and University Housing Officers -International (ACUHO-I) elected Tony Cawthon to fill a new position as knowledge enhancement director on the association’s executive board.

Tony CawthonCawthon, a professor of counselor education/student affairs in Clemson University’s Eugene T. Moore School of Education, took office this summer during the 2008 ACUHO-I Annual Conference & Exposition.

The 2008-2009 executive board is the first under a new governance structure for the association. New offices were created based on knowledge areas within the college housing profession. Cawthon’s role is to provide leadership, support and coordination to ACUHO-I’s efforts to enhance research, knowledge and information in the profession.

Before he joined the faculty, Cawthon spent 12 years in the university housing profession, most recently as director of residence life at Clemson.

“I was elected due to my experience with the creation and dissemination of knowledge in student affairs,” Cawthon said. “We will work to develop the storehouse of knowledge that we need to produce leaders among the next generation of student affairs practitioners.”

“I look forward to this coming year of working with Tony and the rest of the board,” said Norb Dunkel, ACUHO-I president and University of Florida assistant vice president and director of housing and residence education. “It will be an exciting time as we engage our membership and work to position our association and profession for the future.”

Cawthon recently served as editor of ACUHO-I’s publication, The Journal of College and University Student Housing. In addition to teaching in the student affairs graduate program, Cawthon chairs the Eugene T. Moore School of Education’s department of leadership, counselor education and human organization development.
