Clemson is offering Beef Cattle Marketing School

Beef cattle producers can pick up some tips on how to improve profits during a one-day Southeast Beef Cattle Marketing School to be offered Feb. 28 and March 1.

The same program will be presented each day, so producers can attend whichever location is closest. The Feb. 28 program will be at the Clemson Extension Office in Gaffney, 1100 Floyd Baker Boulevard. On March 1 the program will be presented at Dusty Hills Country Club in Marion at 225 Country Club Drive.

The program begins at 9 a.m. each day. It will cost $25 per person if registration is received before Feb. 20 and $40 afterward.

The school is a cooperative effort by Clemson University, the University of Georgia, Auburn University and the University of Florida, according to Brian Beer, area livestock agent in Lancaster. It is sponsored by the Southern Region Risk Management Education Center.

Speakers will give an overview of the cattle situation and outlook for 2008, show how to develop a marketing plan, point out how prices fluctuate during the year, give methods for predicting a cash price, tell how to add value to a calf crop and provide marketing alternatives for small producers.

For registration information contact Brian Beer at (803) 283-3302, ext. 115; or e-mail him at bbeer@clemson.edu. Producers also may go to www.clemson.edu/chester and click on Beef Cattle Marketing School.
