Johansen named university budget director

CLEMSON — Clemson University has tapped Jane E. Johansen to take the reins of the university’s budget division.

Currently responsible for managing and planning debt resources at the University of Virginia, Johansen will become Clemson’s budget director on Feb. 18. Brett Dalton, Clemson’s chief financial officer, made the announcement Friday.

The budget director reports to the chief financial officer and serves as a key member of the financial leadership team with primary responsibility for budgetary development, implementation, management, control and integrity of the budget process and system.

“We believe Jane Johansen will be a good fit for Clemson,” Dalton said. “Her experience in higher education finance will make her a strong team player as we make the financial plans that serve the university’s goals in teaching, research and public service.”

Johansen’s experience in higher education finance goes back to 1992, along with her service to the University of Virginia. She started there as a facilities and administrative cost analyst and rose to her most recent appointment as assistant comptroller and director of investment and tax services, a post she has held since 2001. Her expertise includes financial analysis and modeling, forecasting and budgeting, university development, debt management and investment performance oversight.

She also has experience in the private sector, working for regional and national accounting firms.

Johansen, a certified public accountant, has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Virginia Tech and will earn her MBA from Liberty University in June.
