4-H Shooting Sports program looking for volunteer instructors

CLEMSON – Clemson University’s 4-H Shooting Sports program has scheduled an instructor certification workshop Feb. 15-17 for anyone interested in being a volunteer for the shooting sports program.

The training will be held at the S.C. Department of Natural Resources Webb Wildlife Center near Garnett. Cost is $100 for adult leaders and $50 for teen leaders age 14 to 20. Registration deadline is Feb. 8.

South Carolina 4-H requires that the instructors must be certified in order to conduct a 4-H shooting sports activity. In order to be certified volunteers must attend this training, pass a written exam and practicum and be approved as a 4-H volunteer by Clemson University.

Participants can only be certified in one of the following per training session: shotgun, rifle, pistol or archery.

Registration for first-time attendees will start at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 15. They must be present for the entire workshop to become certified.

Lodging and meals will be available at the Webb Center and are included in the registration costs.
