Scientist to discuss nuclear power, global warming
CLEMSON – Dr. Ed Sadowski, a member of Citizens for Nuclear Technology Awareness, will discuss global climate change and nuclear power at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Clemson University’s Strom Thurmond Institute.
Sponsored by Roots and Shoots, an environmental student organization, and Clemson's Focus the Nation initiative, Sadowski’s discussion will address the energy needs of the United States and why nuclear power is a good option to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels.
“College students need to understand these topics because they will be living in the future on this planet. They will be voting for and making the policy decisions that will affect the health of the Earth,” Sadowski said.
Sadowski earned a bachelor's degree in physics and a Ph.D. in nuclear physics from Ohio University. He was hired by DuPont as a nondestructive analyst at the Savannah River Site (SRS) where he measured amounts of uranium and lithium in nuclear reactor components and component production waste. He has since held several managerial positions at SRS and currently chief scientist of the Analytical Laboratories, where he oversees the process-control measurements for the site’s nuclear facilities.
Focus The Nation is an unprecedented educational initiative on global-warming solutions for America occurring at more than 1,000 universities and colleges and in all 50 states on Jan. 31. The national kick-off for Focus the Nation is at Clemson University on Friday, Jan. 25. As the largest teach-in in U.S. history, Focus The Nation is preparing millions of students to become leaders in the largest challenge any generation has faced.
