Swim lessons restarting at Fike Recreation Center

CLEMSON – Clemson University’s department of campus recreation will offer its Tiger Fish Swim School once again this fall, with sessions starting in September. Lessons will be held in McHugh Natatorium of Fike Recreation Center.

Each session includes four 30-minute lessons held on Sundays. The sessions will be offered in September, October and November during the fall semester and in February, March and April of the spring semester.

A session costs $40 for university affiliates and $55 for non-university affiliates; there is a $10 additional fee for private lessons (when available). A $5 discount is offered for returnees after the first session. Tiger Fish Swim School is available for ages 3 years and older.

“Over 50 percent of the population across the country enjoys swimming as a leisure activity,” said Amy McLeod, assistant to the director of fitness programs and services. “Since swimming is one of the top participation sports in the nation, we want to offer an opportunity to enhance aquatic skills because Clemson is an institute of higher learning.”

All instructors are certified through the American Red Cross and have experience teaching all ages. Classes are small to give individual attention to participants. Lifeguards will be on duty for all sessions.

Registration forms can be picked up at Fike Recreation Center or downloaded online at www.clemson.edu/campusrec. For more information, call the fitness department at (864) 656-7617 or (864) 656-6673 or email at fikefitness@clemson.edu. Spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
