David Reinking inducted into Reading Hall of Fame

CLEMSON — Clemson University education professor David Reinking was inducted into the Reading Hall of Fame at the International Reading Association’s 53rd annual convention in Atlanta this month.

David Reinking Reinking is the Eugene T. Moore Professor of Teacher Education in Clemson’s Eugene T. Moore School of Education.

His most prominent research and scholarly interests revolve around the relation between literacy and digital media. Reinking is in the third year of a project looking into reading comprehension among adolescents when they use the Internet. The $1.7 million project is funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences.

Reinking is vice president of the National Reading Conference and will serve as its president in 2009. He has served as editor of the Journal of Literacy Research and co-editor of Reading Research Quarterly, one of the most influential research journals in education.

The IRA (www.reading.org), which hosts the Hall of Fame, has 85,000 members in 100 countries and promotes higher achievement levels in literacy, reading and communication by advancing the quality of instruction worldwide.

Reinking is the second Clemson University professor installed in the Reading Hall of Fame. Linda Gambrell, professor of education and the IRA’s outgoing president, also is a member of the Hall of Fame.
