Clemson student club to host autocross event

CLEMSON — Clemson University’s Sports Car Club will hold an autocross event at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Anderson Fair and Expo Center.

Autocross is a timed competition where drivers navigate one at a time through a course marked by traffic cones instead of with multiple other cars, as in road racing or oval racing.

“We’re very excited to hold a great event and hope to see many faces from autocrosses of old and hopefully some new as well,” said Ross Hennings of Aiken, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering and president of the Sports Car Club.

Entry fees are $20 for club members when registered online or $25 the day of the event and $30 for non-members online or $35 the day of the event. Online registration can be found at http://clemsonscc.com/staticpages/index.php/AndersonFairExpoAutocross.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the runs begin at 10 a.m. The event will include four to five runs. If time permits after all runs “fun-runs” will be offered to allow drivers a few additional runs and a chance to see what other drivers’ cars can do. Fun-runs are $2 per run.

“Right now we are trying make sure that students, alumni and staff know about this great opportunity that they have to go out and drive their car safely in a controlled environment and learn a thing or two,” Hennings said.
