CREATIVE CLASSES

Creating Beautiful Tablescapes
With the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons coming up, now is the time to give a thought to a creating your holiday tablescapes. While tablescapes often adorn the center of the table, they are more than centerpieces, and a true tablescape is actually a bit more complex. Tablescapes are design plans for an overall look that addresses the entire table or surface as well as its surroundings.  Whether you’re celebrating a holiday or the cherished company of family and friends, a well-set table makes a meal memorable. Coordinate linens and dishes, be creative with the centerpiece, then layer in personal touches like place cards, candles, favors and flowers to make guests feel wanted, welcome and truly special. Choose every item specifically to complement not only other items on the table but also other elements of the space.

Art Gallery Feature: Landscape Paintings by William Jameson
Currently on display until Jan. 12, 2009, the Gallery of the Fran Hansen Discovery Center showcases the work of William Jameson. A South Carolina native, Jameson draws on his love of history and nature to create introspective landscapes embodying the full range of local color and contrasts. Rejecting the term “scenes,” Jameson defines his landscapes as “explorations.” His compositions go beyond mere depictions of surface beauty to reveal the mystery and profound power of nature.
