Clemson University Takes Back the Night with 5K walk/run

CLEMSON — Clemson University will host the fifth annual Take Back the Night 5K Awareness Walk and Run at 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, to raise awareness about physical, emotional and sexual violence.

The 5K race will begin in front of Clemson’s Redfern Health Center and continue through Clemson’s campus, ending in front of Tillman Hall. The course will have several water stations as well as signs with information about sexual assault and prevention. More than 700 runners are expected to participate in this certified Grand Prix event.

Cash prizes of $100, $75 and $50 will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place male and female runners.

Following the race there will be a concert featuring Tony Tidwell and Sam Tesch.

Proceeds from the race will be donated to Foothills Alliance, the Pickens County Rape Crisis Center and Safe Harbor.

“This event encourages each and every one of us to take a stand and speak out against sexual and relationship violence so people everywhere will feel safe and free,” said Jennifer Goree, race director and coordinator of the Healthy Campus Initiative.

The cost is $10 for runners who register before April 10. A group rate of $8 is available for eight or more runners. Race-day registration from noon to 5 p.m. is $15. Pre-registered runners can pick up their race packets at Redfern Health Center between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. April 16.

Runners may register online at www.strictlyrunning.com for a $2.50 service fee or download the registration form and waiver here.

This event is sponsored by Redfern Health Promotion, Healthy Campus Initiative, the Greek Programming Board, EMpower Clemson, the Clemson Gay-Straight Alliance, the Student Health Advisory Committee, Peer Health Educators, General Mills, the Clemson University Police Department, CU CARES, Clemson Area Transit and Aramark.
