Bob Campbell Geology Museum’s fossils featured in upcoming shark book

CLEMSON — Fossil shark teeth from the Bob Campbell Geology Museum’s collection will be featured in the upcoming book "Great White Sharks in United States Museums." The book, written by Alessandro De Maddalena, discusses the fossil history of the great white shark, Carcharodon carcharias, and contains photographs of recent biological material and fossil specimens.

“The Bob Campbell Geology Museum is honored to have been asked by a distinguished scientist like Dr. De Maddalena to share its resources,” said David Cicimurri, the museum’s curator of collections. “We are excited that fossils from our collection are showcased alongside those from other prominent museums in the U.S. and will be available to a worldwide audience.”

"Great White Sharks in United States Museums" is scheduled for release near the end of this year and will be available for sale in the Bob Campbell Geology Museum’s gift shop.

Alessandro De Maddalena is one of the world’s leading authorities on sharks and is recognized for his marine life illustrations. He has authored numerous books and scientific publications on sharks, and produced hundreds of drawings and paintings. He is the curator of the Italian Great White Shark Data Bank, the president of the Italian Ichthyological Society and a founding member of the Mediterranean Shark Research Group.
