Students to hold annual Clemson Motorsports Festival
CLEMSON – The Clemson Sports Car Club will host the second annual Clemson Motorsports Festival from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 19, on Centennial Boulevard in front of Littlejohn Coliseum.
The Clemson Sports Car Club, established in 1968, is a student organization where members compete in autocross events and drag races such as the Grassroots Motorsports Challenge and One Lap of America. Members drive not only sports cars but trucks and four-door sedans as well.
A panel of three judges will award trophies in 15 classes, including best of show, best muscle car, vintage original and best beater, an award for the best “run-down daily driver.”
Performance shops also will attend the show, including Top Dead Center, AV Engineering, DDM Performance, BMW-M Performance and Stable Performance.
On-site registration and check-in will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, when the show will be opened to the public. Trophies will be awarded at 4 p.m.
Pre-registration is available online for $15 at myautoevents.com. Those who register early will receive a free T-shirt and a parking pass. The event is free to spectators.
“This is only our second year holding the Clemson Motorsports Festival, but it will be a yearly event. Hopefully it will grow a little every year,” said David Elkin, a sophomore from Chapin majoring in parks, recreation and tourism management and member of the Clemson Sports Car Club.
