Clemson career center offers workshop to alumni, other job seekers
CLEMSON — Clemson University’s Michelin Career Center is opening its services to alumni and other community members looking for help in their job searches with a workshop titled “Navigating a Job Search in a Tough Economy” on July 18 and 25.
The cost of the workshop is $75 and registration is limited to 25 people per session. Registration may be done online at http://career.clemson.edu/community_rsvp.php. The same workshop will be offered both days, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 18 and from 1 to 5 p.m. July 25 in the Michelin Career Center, located on the third floor of the Hendrix Student Center.
The size of the workshop is limited to offer participants individual attention, said Brooke Buffington, assistant director of career development for the career center.
The workshop will include a résumé critique for each participant (participants will be asked to send résumés in advance of the workshop), tips on interviewing and networking and presentations from corporate recruiters on what they are looking for in a potential employee.
“Hearing from the recruiters will be especially valuable because they do this every day; they know what this job market is like,” Buffington said. “They can give some of the best advice.”
The Michelin Career Center is part of Clemson’s Division of Student Affairs. It typically serves students and alumni for up to one year after graduation, offering workshops, résumé critiques, career fairs and other services designed to help students find jobs.
“With the economy right now, we’ve been receiving more and more calls from community members looking for help,” Buffington said. “We wanted to reach out to a population that hasn’t had to search for a job in a while. In an ever-changing job market, we wanted to give people as much information as possible.”
