Pee Dee Farm Field Day to feature new Mobile Precision Ag Lab
FLORENCE — From cotton and soybeans to peanuts and turf grass, Clemson University’s Pee Dee Research and Education Center will open its fields from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, for the annual agricultural showcase.
Clemson University’s Will Henderson will give a presentation on precision agriculture: the practice of using remote-sensing, soil-sampling and information-management tools to optimize agriculture production.
Henderson will demonstrate how the newly equipped Clemson University Mobile Precision Ag Lab takes Clemson research from the field to the farmer.
Marketing specialist and commodity broker Edgar Woods will give a commodity marketing update and S.C. Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers will give the luncheon address.
The event, which is free and open to the public, features a choice of morning tours and includes lunch. Pesticide recertification (CCH) and CCA credits for specific tours also are available.
The tours include: turfgrass; peanuts tobacco and corn; cotton and soybean management; wildlife, biofuels and muscadine grapes; and precision agriculture.
Clemson’s Pee Dee center is at 2200 Pocket Road, Florence, just a few miles from Interstate 95.
Registration is from 8 to 9 a.m. For more information and directions call 843-662-3526, ext. 264, or visit http://www.clemson.edu/public/rec/peedee.
