Siren test scheduled for Wednesday, July 8

Clemson University and the Oconee Nuclear Station conduct periodic siren tests to ensure sirens are working properly. The next scheduled campus test will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, to coordinate with the Oconee Nuclear Station siren test at 11:50 a.m. on the same day.

Sirens will sound for approximately three minutes for each test.

This testing is part of normal maintenance, and no public action is necessary.

In conjunction with the siren tests, you will receive a test CUSafe Alert message via e-mail and cell-phone text message if you have signed up for that service. If you do not receive a CUSafe Alert after 11 a.m. Wednesday, please send a message to CUSafety-L@clemson.edu so we can investigate.

For information about signing up to receive CU Safe text messages on your cell phone, go to www.Clemson.edu/cusafety.

In the event of an actual emergency, you should tune your radio or television to an emergency alerting station for instructions and information. These sirens could be used to alert you to emergencies at the nuclear station as well as any other type emergency in the area. Emergency information also will be posted, as it becomes available, at: http://www.Clemson.edu/CUSafety.

The CU Safety Web page also contains information on what to do when the sirens sound.
