4-H2O day camp scheduled for July 6-9 in Horry County
CONWAY — 4-H in Horry County and Carolina Clear, a Clemson University stormwater education and awareness program, will host a four-day 4-H2O day camp for rising fifth- to eighth-graders.
The day camp will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 6-9 at the Socastee Recreation Center on Butler Road (off Enterprise Road near Socastee). Cost per youth is only $50 and includes a workbook, T-shirt and a water-quality monitoring device.
Campers will learn about local aquatic ecosystems, hydrology, watersheds and local rivers and how the decisions they make can affect the quality of freshwater resources.
They will receive an introduction to aquatic sciences, including the study of freshwater ecosystems, a field trip to a water treatment plant, boat safety and an up-close look at aquatic life.
There also will be games and prizes, fishing, boat rides, canoeing and kayaking.
Children should bring their own lunches each day and wear clothing and shoes that are allowed to get wet or dirty.
