Local children learn about animals at the Pickens County 4-H Livestock Fun Day and Mock Show
PICKENS — About 50 children got an education about livestock at the Pickens County 4-H Livestock Fun Day and Mock Show on May 2. The event was held at Southland Ranch, owned by Jimmy and Susan Hutton of Pickens.
The event was designed to introduce young people to the livestock program. Participants learned about animal care, handling and showing in the ring. Workshops were taught by Clemson University students who are experienced in animal care, animal specialists and general livestock specialists
AgSouth sponsored the event and Terry Wyatt from AgSouth brought the sheep. The Laurens County goat club brought goats and Mickey Hall, Clemson extension specialist, brought chickens from Clemson University. The Huttons provided Herefords.
Tractor Supply of Anderson and 06 Farm Services of Six Mile provided door prizes and the Pickens County Cattlemen's Association provided dinner.
