Clemson television programs nominated for Emmy Awards
CLEMSON — Two Clemson University television programs have been nominated for the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Southeast Emmy Awards, which recognize outstanding achievement in television programming excellence.
"Expeditions with Patrick McMillan," a PBS nature series, was nominated in the Magazine Program category. The series airs at 7:30 p.m. Sundays on SCETV and is distributed nationally to PBS affiliates. The Emmy-nominated episode, "Darters and Dace – Jewels of Our Mountain Streams," aired in March 2008. In the episode, Clemson University naturalist McMillan and guest expert Jeff Smith travel across the watersheds and along the mountain streams of the Appalachian Mountains in search for fish, some as brilliant as those found on coral reefs.
"Crossroads," a documentary of the Catholic Sisters’ ministries in South Carolina, was nominated in the Interview/Discussion category. Based on the research of professor Mark Small in Clemson’s Institute on Family and Neighborhood Life, the program highlights the sisters’ historical impact and challenging future. It aired statewide on SCETV in 2008.
Both programs were produced by Clemson Video Production Services. Among the staff cited in the nominations are:
- For Expetitions: McMillan, Tom Neal, David White and Josh Guillot
- Crossroads: Elizabeth Anderson and Paul Ruszkowski
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Southeast Chapter is a professional, nonprofit association dedicated to excellence in visual media. The chapter serves Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina and Asheville, N.C.
Winners will be announced at the 35th Southeastern Emmy Awards June 27.
