Barker named Business Person of the Year by Greenville Magazine
GREENVILLE — Clemson University President James F. Barker was named Business Person of the Year by Greenville Magazine Thursday night.
Barker was among five honorees at the magazine's The Cliffs Business Person of the Year event. It's the 14th year for the event to honor local business leaders for their achievements and work in the Greenville community.
Other honorees were Mark Kent, chief executive of Kent Manufacturing; Valinda Rutledge, chief executive of Bon Secours St. Francis; Monica Smith, owner/operator of The Pink Monogram; and Bill Wylie, retired president of Goodwill Industries.
Barker was honored as Business Person of the Year in recognition of his dedication to the Upstate and vision for Clemson University, including the Renaissance Center, the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research and national advancement of the University itself.
Dave Branon, past chairman of Dunlop Slazenger Group Americas, addressed the audience on the subject of vision and leadership. Jane Robelot of WYFF4 served as emcee for the event at the Westin Poinsett Hotel. It was presented by WYFF4, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Furman University.
The program will be broadcast on WYFF4 at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6.
