Clemson announces Solid Orange Live festival

Two-day music festival will feature Eddie Money, Wyclef Jean, Colbie Caillat and more

CLEMSON — Clemson University will host two days of music, sports and family fun April 11-12 with the first-ever Solid Orange Live festival.

The festival will take place on the lawn surrounding Littlejohn Coliseum and will feature a midway of carnival games and rides — including a 60-foot Ferris wheel — as well as concerts, food, merchandise from area vendors and more. The festival adds to the excitement and fun of an already busy weekend at Clemson, with the annual spring football game Saturday, April 12; a home baseball series against the University of North Carolina; a women's tennis match against Maryland; and the Solid Orange Classic outdoor track and field meet.

"More than 30,000 people will be coming to campus for the spring football game and other athletic events, and we wanted to create a weekend that opened a window into Clemson University for Tiger fans and other area residents," said Marty Kern, director of major events for Littlejohn. "Solid Orange Live has entertainment options for those who want to cheer on the Tigers, rock out to big-name artists or have an unforgettable family outing at the carnival."

The main draw of the festival will be the music, which ranges from rock to pop to reggae to urban. The lineup includes performances from 1980s pop star Eddie Money; reggae band The Wailers, best known for their work with the legendary Bob Marley; hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean; and pop star Colbie Caillat. The festival also will feature local and regional independent artists, such as Athens rock band The Whigs.

Kern says more music acts will be announced in the coming weeks.

Tickets for the festival go on sale Saturday, March 1, and are available at the Littlejohn Coliseum box office, TicketMaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.com. Advanced weekend tickets are on sale through April 6 and are $35. The week of the show, weekend ticket prices go up to $50. Daily passes for the show are available the day of the show for $30 per day. Children under 12 will be admitted free. All seating is general admission. A ticket allows entrance to the carnival midway, but tickets for carnival rides are 50 cents each.

A limited number of VIP weekend tickets are available for $110 for adults and $50 for children ages 4 to 12. A VIP ticket includes food and beverages, exclusive seating, private restroom facilities, congregation areas inside Littlejohn Coliseum and a pass for all carnival rides.
