Mission Statement: Office of Institutional
Research
The Office of Institutional Research serves as a
comprehensive source for information about Clemson University. A fundamental
goal of the office is to collect, comprehend, combine, and analyze data
pertaining to a range of operational activities at Clemson University and to
maintain a historical database of these data. The office assists with the
systematic evaluation of educational programs, faculty educational support
services, administrative processes, and financial and fiscal resources in order
to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the institution. The office acts as
a repository for information that may be used to support planning, policy
formulation, and strategic decision-making.
The office supports the self-study process required for
maintaining accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Additionally, the office coordinates the preparation of data and reports for
submittal to IPEDS, HEGIS, and to the Commission on Higher Education. It is the
responsibility of the Office of Institutional Research to collect and analyze
comparative data from peer institutions.
In cooperation with the Office of Assessment, the Office
of Institutional Research assists colleges, departments, and other units of the
University in gathering information and documenting the results of reports
pertinent to measuring programmatic outcomes, CHE program reviews, and outside
accrediting groups.
The office also provides advice on the development and
refinement of state level information systems on state funding formulas and the
data requirements for them on studies of special interest in higher education in
the state, and on the information required for state-level master planning.
A working library of publications on higher education,
particularly the literature on research in higher education, is maintained by
the office. The library is available for use by all members of the campus
community.
In all of its activities, the office will ensure the
confidentiality of sensitive information and the anonymity of individuals. The
office will also ensure that information is released only to appropriate
individuals and groups in accordance with applicable federal and state laws.
