Involvement Opportunities

volunteer parents

College can be a great experience for both you and your student. Getting involved can help you to stay connected with your student as well as Clemson. It can give you a unique opportunity to learn about Clemson while making friends with other families from all over the United States. Below are a list of current ways for families to be involved here at Clemson.

  • Career Development Opportunities
This program provides parents and alumni with the opportunity to help students by sponsoring internships or hosting a co-op student.

  • Family Weekend/Spring Family Reunion
Volunteers assist with the planning and implementation of the annual family events on campus. Family Weekend is in conjunction with football and the Spring Family Reunion is in conjunction with baseball.

  • Letter-Writing Campaign
Volunteers write letters to accepted students encouraging them to enroll at Clemson. This is a personal touch, where you can share your own student’s Clemson Experience. The addresses and sample letters are provided for you.

  • Host Clemson Events
The Parents Council hosts Back to School Socials and New Student Receptions Parents Council throughout the year. These are both events to share about Clemson and get others excited about considering going to school here. These are particularly common in out-of-state areas, where there are numerous students who have been accepted to Clemson University or numerous people have made plans to come to Clemson. These are great ways to meet other families from the same area.

  • Move in Day
Volunteers assist with the planning and implementation of welcoming families to campus. Our volunteers answer questions, promote upcoming family events and welcome parents to Clemson.

  • Student Life
Volunteers assist Parents Council Advisory Board members in reviewing student life issues on campus.

  • Advisory Board
Members of the Parents Council Advisory Board meet three times per year to help recruit academically talented students, help promotes activities that directly benefit Clemson students, serve as ambassadors for Clemson and provide the University with a parent perspective. Being on the advisory board is an application process. The Advisory Board oversees the opportunities indicated above as well as New Student Orientation. We have volunteers help with the Orientation sessions by distributing Parents Council literature to parents, answering questions and welcoming parents to Clemson.

  • High School Contact
Volunteers serve as local Clemson University ambassadors to students and their families who live outside South Carolina. Parents Council members will positively represent Clemson at high school college fairs in their home states.
